"Much of the inspiration for my work is drawn from the rich history of the fiber arts, which bridge myriad cultures, time periods and places. My continuing exploration of this ancient medium is a seeking of its evolution into the age of technology, in which handicraft is an increasingly rare and precious commodity. A materials-driven creation process thus provides fertile ground for fresh interpretation and unexpected connections. "I am especially interested in creating relationships between materials that do not typically interact within the context of jewelry, which I hope in turn will create a uniquely inspiring and empowering relationship between the object and the wearer. "My original line of knitted jewelry came about from my exploration of textiles in order to create wearable art. I continue to make all of my jewelry and acessories by hand, using a wide variety of materials. The most common of these are silk, cashmere and cotton, which I combine with crystals, semi-precious stones, metals, glass, wood and shell."
Upon graduating RISD, Renata immediately began receiving orders for her jewelry from Barneys New York. She has since then been featured in textile jewelry shows at Martina & Company and trunk shows with machine knitting impresario, Liz Collins. Renata's work has also appeared in many major fashion magazines and the CBS Daily Show Fall Accessories Special. Renata Mann's "Classics" collection of knit necklaces is always available, with a seasonal variety of thread and beads. In addition to the Classics, a limited edition collection of jewelry and accessories are offered each Fall and Spring season. She also offers commissions and special orders, and is open to collaborations. For any retail, purchase or press inquiries, please contact us at: renataknits(at)yahoo(dot)com
